What We Do
We provide an adequate environment where orphaned and abandoned children can find a refuge and receive all the love and care they need to grow up as a normal human being. Society has a tendency to look down on such children and classify them as second-class citizens who only have to suffer till they die. This is wrong, for all the children have a right to a very good life. We aim to : -
- Ensure that these children receive proper and adequate feeding, clothing and all forms of distraction necessary for good growth;
- Give them adequate education for a good future so they can integrate themselves in society, as adults with little or no difficulties;
- Train the children in practical things like computers, studies, sewing, hairdressing, mechanics and other since jobs are getting more and more scarce in our society. In this way, the children can be sure of earning their livelihood without stealing, delinquency, prostitution or any such vices that trouble our society today.
- Provide adequate medical facilities to children when they are sick
Others
- In addition there is a very big library in the I.C.O, containing books of all walks of life. This enables people who love to read but do not have access to books (maybe because of lack of money,) to read and have all the knowledge they need. This also curbs the rate of idleness, which sometimes leads to crime. This also creates a possibility for self-development;
- Another objective of I.C.O is to visit the children who live with parents but in abject poverty and destitute conditions and provide them assistance right there in the form of food, clothes and education.
- With I.C.O. no child is left out, especially the poor. The target is to reach out to as many abandoned, orphaned and destitute children as possible.
- Children have a right to a good life, good food, good clothes, a good home, and a good education which will in turn lead to a good future.
How will the society benefit?
- The phenomenon of street children will be greatly reduced;
- Banditism and prostitution will be reduced
- The children from the orphanage will help society with all the knowledge they must have acquired instead of becoming social problems;
- They will help other children who find themselves in the same situation;
- Juvenile delinquency will be greatly reduced;
- Young people will learn to become responsible as early in life as possible;
- There will be a big social centre where abandoned children and children who find themselves as orphans for one reason or the other can find a solace without wandering about aimlessly. Let us not forget the AIDS pandemic which is causing havoc out there and leaving countless numbers of children as orphans
